Mt. Kilang is a prominent tourist destination in Apayao, with a towering height of 1,656 meters. Its impressive outline is adorned by a sea of clouds, making it a breathtaking sight that travelers should not miss. You can catch a glimpse of this majestic mountain from the border of Calanasan, Apayao, and Solsona, Ilocos Norte.

According to legend, Mt. Kilang got its name from a heartbreaking story about a girl named Kilang who searched for her fiancé named Kilong on the mountain. Kilong asked for Kilang's hand in marriage, but her parents required him to offer three pigs as a traditional offering. For the Isnag tribe, the giving of pigs serves as a sign of sincerity and respect. Despite having only two pigs, Kilong was determined to marry Kilang and went to the mountain to search for the missing pig. He never returned, prompting Kilang to embark on her own search for him. Kilang persevered through harsh weather conditions, and her tears were said to have polished the rocks of the mountain into limestone.

According to the local legend, Kilang's love and perseverance in searching for Kilong in the mountain led to the abundance of flora and fauna in the area. It is said that she planted colorful flowers everywhere during her search. As a tribute to her undying love and devotion, the mountain was named after her as Mt. Kilang. The story of Kilang and Kilong serves as a testament to the power of love and the lengths one would go to for the person they cherish the most.
